REVIEW REPORT OF ANNUAL STRATEGIC PERSPECTIVE PLAN ACADEMIC YEAR 2020-21

1.Quality Initiatives in Teaching Learning Processes

  • Review of Results in University examinations: Results are not satisfactory as seen in the analysis sheet. (Result analysis - Annexure 01)
  • Attempt at mapping the PO’s and CO’s/ Mapping the cross-cutting issues embedded in teaching and co-curricular activities to promote deeper learning among students :The curricular plan developed by the faculty for their respective subjects, enables them to scrutinize the topics and identify the ones that can be connected to programme outcome. To strengthen the curriculum plan that leads to better learning outcomes, faculties are attempting to map Programme Outcomes to Course outcomes so that learning is streamlined. Along with the above, the integration of cross cutting issues into the curriculum plan and also aligning it to the co-curricular activities, is being worked out. This is to ensure that the learning is guided and aligned to larger vision of the institution.
  • Strengthen the use of technology in the teaching learning process:c.Several workshops have been conducted for the faculty to familiarize them with the latest technology to integrate with classroom teaching. Usage of Google Sheet was emphasized for collecting the data. Teachers were trained with applications of google docs.
  • Arrange a National level symposium in a relevant theme: 6 faculty development programs were conducted. 3 out of 6 Faculty Development Programmes lasted for more than 3 days duration .
    A 2 day National Conference was organized by the Department of Commerce and Management.;

2.Quality Initiatives in Promoting of Research

  • Energize the functioning Research and Development Cell/ Organize FDP connected to research themes- internal and external:The RDC has been actively organizing events and FDP’s across the year.
  • Continue to recruit faculty with research degrees and who have an inclination towards research /Motivate faculty to register for research programmes:The research profile of the departments are improving with currently 06 of the faculty members are doctoral degree holders and 09 are pursuing their Ph.D. Effort is being made to recruit faculty holding a research degree.

3.Quality Initiatives linked to Extra-curricular and Co-curricular Activities

  • Strengthen SAHA BALVE- The Nitte Social connect activities through the clubs/:The Vision of the College envisages development of students into ‘responsible citizens’. The Mission aims at making students capable of contributing “ to the economic progress of the nation with a social conscience and high ethical standards”. “Nitte Social Connect” was conceptualized to execute the above-mentioned goals.
  • Dr. N.S.A.M. First Grade College has set up a host of Cells and Clubs viz, ‘Nitte Social Connect”- Community Orientation Club- Prakruthi- Eco Club, ‘Ayush’- The Health Club, Business Lab, Human Rights Cell, ED Cell, NSS, YRCS, ‘Udaan- the Women Empowerment Cell, POSH- the Prevention of Sexual Harassment Cell and Anti Ragging Cell. Through these Cells and Clubs, the College not only aims to help students to imbibe the necessary skills as responsible citizens, empowered human beings and completely evolved human beings , but also respond to the needs of the society to develop skills like empathy, coordination skills, leadership skills, inter and intra-personal skills etc.

Attempts are being made to connect all these activities by mapping the outcomes into the PO’s and the crosscutting goals.

  • Provide increased indoor and outdoor sports facilities/coaching for students- including a gym and yoga centre in the new campus:The College has a large space of 4800 Sq. ft. allotted for outdoor sports activity. This has multiple purpose ground which can facilitate Football, Cricket, Volleyball, Throwball and Kabaddi courts. The institution also has the access to the swimming pools and Football, Cricket, Volleyball, Throwball, Handball, Basketball and Kabaddi courts situated in the sister institution (Nitte International School) less than one kilometer away.
  • Yoga Room is spacious, well ventilated (850 sq. ft.), equipped with yoga mats and an elevated space for yoga demonstration.
  • The Gymnasium is a room of the size 625 sq.ft. The gymnasium well ventilated and equipped with both weight and cardio sections.

4.Quality Initiatives linked to Student Support Facilities/ Activities

  • Strengthen and monitor the mentoring process/ Strengthen the activities through counseling cell:“Acharya” is a practice of Mentoring which is one of the best practices of the institution. Acharya believes in providing the necessary support to the students to excel not only academically but also improves their over all personality development.
  • For this the Dr. N.S.A.M First Grade College has developed an SoP “Acharya:- The Mentoring Practice. Faculties are expected to guide and handhold students in the current juncture of their life. To ensure this, Mentoring Cell allocates Mentees to the Mentors each year. The Mentoring Cell has developed a comprehensive Manual which prepares the profile of each mentee including their previous academic performance, their hobbies, strengths, weaknesses, parental background, socio-economic background etc. Once Mentees are allotted to the Mentors, they not only prepare the Manual to understand each mentee, but periodically meet and monitor the progress of the student, their social circles, participation in curricular, co-curricular, extra-curricular activities, attendance, punctuality, financial requirements, psychological wellbeing etc. The Mentors suggest the necessary Cells and Committees to make appropriate and positive interventions in the personality development of a student. They also interact with the Principal for financial support and scholarship. Based on their strengths, they are motivated to take part in sports and cultural activities both inside and outside the campus. Thus, through this practice, the Mentors keep an eye on the performance and psychological wellbeing of each student .

The counseling cell works in close association with the mentor teachers. In case of requirement for psychological support, the Mentors would suggest the Counseling Cell to make interventions. The Counseling Cell would not only provide the support through counseling but also in case of advanced level of intervention, the assistance of the ‘Visiting Counselor” is taken care of.

Through the Counseling Cell, all the faculty underwent an intensive eight day training programme on ‘Counseling Skills for Educators’. All the faculties attending the same received certifications. Additionally, the counselling cell and the counselor were actively involved in addressing the emotional distress experienced by students, faculty and parent community too. This was facilitated through multiple group sessions and FDP on ‘Emotional Bonding during Social Distancing’

5. Student Internships and Placement facility

  • Initiate courses linked to entrepreneurship, family business, farming techniques etc./ Organize training programs for students to prepare for Aptitude Tests:The placement cell although has been striving hard but to network with organizations, has not been very effective in achieving its primary goals.
  • Continue the 30-hour placement preparedness training for volunteering students.
  • 8 Student Development Programes were conducted by the Commerce and Management Department and IQAC.
