The NITTE education Trust manages over 36 institutions in three campuses across Bangalore, Mangalore & NITTE. Of the 36 institutions, A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, K S Hegde Medical Academy, Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences, Nitte Gulabi Shetty Memorial Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy, Nitte Institute of Communication, Nitte Institute of Architecture and Nitte University Centre for Science Education & Research have been brought under the ambit of Nitte University.

Nitte University is one of the few universities in India that has been awarded the "A" category status by the MHRD, Govt. of India and accredited with 'A' grade by NAAC.

The University has 60+ UG and PG courses in medical, dental, pharmacy, nursing, physiotherapy, journalism, bio-medical science and public health. The student enrolment is 30,000+. The students are from almost all Indian state and from 10+ foreign countries. The faculty strength is 700+ and there are 1300+ non teaching staff. The faculty actively engages in research and projects sanctioned by agencies like DBT, DST, BRNS, ICMR and International agencies like NIH, Canada and Wake Forest University, USA.

The University has a state-of-art Central Research laboratory. Facilities for research in multiple sclerosis, stem cell, human genetics , molecular biology and animal experimentation, have also been established. Drug trial consultancy for large pharmaceutical companies is also undertaken. Alongside teaching and research, with a view to expose students to community life and welfare, the University engages in a wide range of community development works. A network of 20 rural health centers and two community hospitals spread in four districts of the state of Karnataka and one district in the neighbouring state of Kerala provide free medical and dental relief to over two lakh people. The students are posted to these centres for training and for a better understanding of the healthcare and societal needs of the under privileged.

All students are covered under the Medicare scheme which entitles them to free medical and dental treatment. The department of Counseling, Student welfare, Training & Placement is vibrant in its activities and conducts orientation programs for fresh entrants and trains students in leadership, public speaking, effective communication there by making them competent to face interviews during campus recruitments.
